Layer 7 Technologies Announces Products Support The Solaris 10 Operating System

Leading XML Security and Networking Vendor Adds to Family of Products to Help Secure, Simplify and Scale XML and SOA Deployments

JavaOne Conference 2007

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Layer 7 Technologies announced today support for the Solaris 10 operating system (OS) from Sun Microsystems for its XML Firewall and XML Networking Gateway software products. Layer 7 is the only XML security and networking vendor to offer both a family of software-upgradeable XML appliances and gateway software running on the Solaris 10 OS for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), including AJAX and REST-based services.

Layer 7s decision to support the Solaris 10 OS was based on broad, rapidly-growing Solaris adoption within the enterprise, support for an extensive range of high-end servers, including AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon processor-based systems, and the high performance metrics the Solaris 10 OS demonstrated, both in industry benchmarks and internal testing with Layer 7s gateway software.

As Service Oriented Architectures move beyond pilot stage to become the norm for delivering technology-enabled business solutions, enterprise-grade scalability, security and performance become bigger concerns, said Juan Carlos Soto, Vice President of Market Development, Sun Microsystems. Layer 7s SecureSpan products running on the Solaris 10 OS bring to this growing IT model the Solaris platform's unmatched collection of built-in high performance, security, reliability, and scalability benefits.

Layer 7s customers use software-based versions of SecureSpan to deploy highly scalable and cost-effective XML security and application-oriented networking solutions. The SecureSpan XML Firewall provides advanced identity and message-level SOA security for cross-domain, B2B and portal applications. The SecureSpan XML Networking Gateway adds support for complex SOA message routing, mediation, virtualization and Service Level Agreements.

In addition to gateway software for the data center, Layer 7 also offers a family of software-upgradeable hardware-accelerated XML appliances, to facilitate support for both existing and future enterprise infrastructure.

"Building real world SOA implementations requires comprehensive XML security across all platforms and technologies," said Jason Bloomberg, Senior Analyst, ZapThink. "The fact that Layer 7 Technologies continues to expand their deployment options in the enterprise gives them a competitive advantage over both hardware-only or software-only SOA security and networking options."
